Getting Around
The Japan Rail Pass pays off for long-distance travel, but do the maths — regional IC cards (Suica/ICOCA) are better for city hopping. Trains are punctual to the minute.
Carry Cash
Japan is still surprisingly cash-first outside big cities. Withdraw at 7-Eleven ATMs, which reliably accept foreign cards.
Etiquette
Quiet on trains, no tipping, and shoes off where you see a step up. A little politeness goes a very long way.
